The Open Pager Project's goal is to design a very simple radio paging protocol and system that can be implemented with circuits made up of discrete, off the shelf, components rather than complex ICs. Along with the protocol itself, a reference pager also a part of the project.
At the moment, the project is in the very early stages of development and properly functioning hardware and software is not anywhere close to being ready yet. As the project matures, I will update this page with more information and details.
